St. Louis is a great place to live and the summer months may be the best of all. There are the parks, the zoo, the sidewalk dining, but there are also seemingly endless festivals and events. With Open Streets, the CWE Art Fair and Taste and the professional Tour de Grove bike race, this weekend offers up another incredible St. Louis weekend.
Open Streets, 8am-1pm Sunday, is sponsored by Boeing and the City of St. Louis and invites walkers, runners, strollers and bikes to explore the city without worrying about cars and other traffic. This will be the second Open Streets event and will connect the Central West End to Old Post Office Plaza downtown. Along the way be sure to admire the stately mansions of the CWE, the substantial infill of the Gaslight Square area and the new restaurants and other businesses of Midtown Alley. At the east end you'll find a the revitalized Post Office Plaza and the imposing Roberts Tower near completion.
The 16th CWE Art Fair and Taste takes place on Euclid Avenue and features 60 artist booths and dozens of local restaurants. Grab a seat outside one of the many restaurants and coffee houses and enjoy the best people watching in the City. There is also music and movies if the art and food aren't enough for you. The north end of the event will serve as the western end of the Open Streets event.
Sunday afternoon features the professional Tour de Grove race with the start/finish line on Manchester Avenue in The Grove. A Saturday race in Midtown, the Midtown Alley Gran Prix features the best local riders and Saturday night will see bicycle drag races in The Grove. Sunday features a 5K and a full day of racing leading to the 80-mile pro event starting at 3:00 p.m. It's a nasty course with 13 turns so you'll likely be able to pick a spot and witness some chaos. The event is still looking for volunteers and you can sign up by clicking here.
