North Sarah Phase II Underway; Transforming Vandeventer Avenue

The $30 million second phase of the North Sarah development (Phase I is profiled on this blog here) is well underway. Three new mixed use structures have popped up on the west side of North Vandeventer.

Below is a photograph taken earlier this week looking north on Vandeventer at West Belle Place.

Here is a Google Streetview shot showing this same view from July 2011, for comparison purposes:

All told, North Sarah Phase II will contain 103 mixed-income rental housing units geared towards families and 6,400 square feet of retail/commercial space. This is in addition to Phase I’s 120 units and 12,000 square feet of commercial space. More information on North Sarah Phase II is available from this press release of the joint developers—the St. Louis Housing Authority and McCormack Baron Salazar.

A new commercial building is also under construction on North Sarah itself as a part of Phase II. This will be the first part of the development where two new mixed use structures face one another, fully re-urbanizing what was once “urban prairie”.

This new building, located on the west side of Sarah just south of Finney, is shown below:
