Missouri has a surprising strong cycling history. Track National Championships have been contested here, the city was the scene of the somewhat forgetable movie American Flyers, the Gateway Cup races Labor Day weekend attract big crowds and of course the Tour of Missouri has now rolled through town three times, bringing the world’s best to our streets. One more big event is now on the way. The Tour of Winghaven, as it has been known is on its way to The Grove. In case you’re scratching your head about why a professional bike race was in Winghaven, well, you’re not alone. It can be difficult to find a location that allows a promoted to close streets and access parking. But crowds were sparse and the riders didn’t fall in love with the setting either.
The Tour de Grove is a National Racing Calendar event, one of about 25 races that make up the American professional cycling season. The Tour de Grove will take place Sunday, June 12th.
From the Tour de Grove website: “One of St. Louis fastest growing neighborhoods is about to get a little faster. Sunday, June 12th, the fastest professional male and female cyclists in the United States will compete in the Tour de Grove. We welcome you to get in The Grove and enjoy an incredible weekend celebrating the sport and culture of cycling. More than a race, the Tour de Grove features three competitive cycling events, a 5k run, family events, races for kids, a national cycling poster art show and outdoor activities Saturday and Sunday. Part of the prestigious USA Cycling National Racing Calendar, the Tour de Grove will ignite the streets of St. Louis with the speed and fury of America’s best cyclists.”{jcomments on}
