While local municipal governments continue to wield their zoning and taxing powers and states are flush with stimulus cash, metropolitan area agencies and regional councils continue to lack funding and political power. The importance of MSA's to the nation's economic health is well documented (see several links on this blog) and yet they continue to exist more on paper than in practice.
It's nice to see that others are frustrated by the lack of regional planning in our nation, though if Boston and other MSA's can't get their stuff together is there really any hope for St. Louis?
