St. Margaret of Scotland Catholic Church is bucking the trend of other Archdiocesan schools in the City of St. Louis. Rather than closing up shop or consolidating, St. Margaret of Scotland is expanding its classroom space. The school will construct a new building at the southeast corner of Shaw Boulevard and Lawrence Street.

The school recently posted a short description of the project with a rendering on its website.

The rendering, courtesy of the Lawrence Group, is shown below and faces southeast from Shaw Blvd.:

Reminds me a bit of Citygarden Montessori but without the historic character.

Funny you should mention Montessori. It reminded me immediately of the closed Montessori building on Grand. (Which, if one takes a gander at the side elevation, is a much older building that it lets on).

Hope this is built in mind for vertical expansion later.

Good to see another parking lot being removed! Plus they’re very active with their garden across Shaw on the NE corner.

It’s not nearly as ugly as I thought it would be, but it’s close. At least they brought in some natural light with the big windows.

Agree, nice to see the big windows. As a parent myself, you wonder how the school/architect addresses safety and security with the big windows essentially on top of a public sidewalk. Might sound trivial, but my first thought when I read your comment.
