Roundabouts Offer Direct Path to Safer Roads

Carmel, Indiana gets it, why can’t St. Louis? OK, we’re getting a few roundabouts in Forest Park, but they’ve largely been shunned as a solution for some of our busier intersections. There have, however, been success stories. In O’Fallon a roundabout replaced a traditional intersection in July 2008. Here are the numbers:

July 2008 – June 2009 (roundabout)
7 accidents
4 two-car accidents
3 single-car accidents
2 cars required towing
0 injuries

July 2006 – May 2008 (traditional intersection)
24 accidents
24 two-car accidents
12 injuries
