The Big BIG Tour Turns 15, Puts Spotlight on For-Sale Homes in St. Louis City

City neighborhoods have unique vibes. Those vibes are a large part of what the annual Big BIG Tour seeks to showcase each year. Begun in 1999 to help fuel the re-population of the City, the tour of for-sale homes within the City limits has grown each year and now offers househunters the chance to experience and compare neighborhoods while viewing a potentially large number of nearby homes – all open on the same day.

With 100+ homes opening their doors, a few hundred potential homebuyers typically turn up to view them, some with a pre-selected area in mind, and many eager to see what the City’s fast-changing neighborhoods have to offer since the last time they came through on their way to a ballgame. This year they’ll find a selection that includes downtown lofts, Central West End condos, historic homes, new construction on infill lots, and everything in between.

The free tour is self-guided. Tour books and maps are available online a few days before the event for those who want to plan their routes. They’re also available in person the day of the tour at the ‘Flying Saucer’ Starbuck’s location at Grand and Forest Park.

Midtown Saucer

Tour staff will be distributing maps there from 10am to 2pm on Sunday, September 29th. Anyone who hasn’t had the chance to check out the repurposed 1960’s landmark should definitely stop in to check it out before heading out to househunt in Old North, South City, Central West End, Midtown, Downtown and all over the City!

Big BIG Tour is sponsored by Revitalize St. Louis, which includes the recently-merged Metropolis and Rehabbers Club organizations. Volunteers are welcome to help out with BBT 2014 as well as with events the Rehabbers Club hosts throughout the year. Check out rehabberslub.org for details on volunteer opportunities!
